Nickelodeon has the pulled the plug on popular show Sam & Cat, which stars Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy. “Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat,” a network spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter over the weekend. “We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best.”
While the reason for the scrapping of the show was not revealed, it is
thought that a lot of off-camera drama led to the decision.
Rumors
of a feud between the show’s two stars have been swirling for months.
The trouble started in March when nude photos of McCurdy were leaked
online. Then, the actress didn’t show up to the network’s Kids’ Choice
Awards, despite the fact that creator Dan Schneider was being honored
with a Lifetime Achievement award.
At the
time, McCurdy defended herself by implying that Nickelodeon hadn’t
treated her well. “I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair
situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out
for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what
is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing,”
she tweeted.
Sources told TMZ that McCurdy was angry that she made less money than Grande, which Grande refuted.
